1. Environmental Management Systems Seminar

BCSDM organized an EMS Seminar on the 26th February 1999 and through the sponsorship of Bayer Malaysia, Mr. Chris van Lint, General Manager Regulatory Affairs, Region Far East, Bayer China Co Ltd, presented his experiences on “Responsible Care Programme in the Chemical Industry”, which is a global initiative to improve safety, health and sustainable development.

2. Seminar on “Development and Deployment of Environmental Management Plans (EMPs).

With a view of encouraging companies to put into place systemic environment management system (EMS), BCSDM organized a seminar on “Development and Deployment of Environmental Management Plans (EMPs) on the 23rd April 1999. The speakers were:

  1. En Abdul Aziz Long, SIRIM QAS Sdn Bhd His presentation was on “Guidelines for the Development of Environmental Management Plans”
  2. En Izam Ismail, EHS Team Leader, Serdang Pawer Station, his presentation was on “ Development and Implication of an Environmental Management System in a Power Plant- The Serdang Experience”


3. EMS Study Visit

BCSDM organized a study visit to Motorola Sungai Way on 20th July 1999 to see how Environmental Management System is implemented with particular focus on operational control and a tour of the treatment plant and water recycling system.
4. Environmental Management Systems Seminar

In its series on Environmental Management Systems, BCSDM organized a half-day seminar on 20th August 1999 and it focused on Case Studies on Implementation of Environmental Management Plan (EMP). Two experts were invited to share their experiences on EMS.

  1. Mr. Tan Kheng Huat, Senior Manager, Environmental Management Representative, Sony Electronics Malaysia, Penang. His presentation was on “Implementation of Environmental Management Plan in a Supply Chain – Sony’s Experience.”
  2. Mr Lim Tan Chun, ESIH Manager, Motorola Malaysia Sungai Way Free Trade Zone, PJ. His presentation was on “Implementing Environmental Management Plan- Motorloa’s Perspective”


5. Fund Raising BCSDM Nite

AS BCSDM was in financial crises the Fund Raising Sub-committee organized a BCSDM Nite with a fellowship cocktail and ‘Dutch Auction’ on the 1st September 1999 at HSBC.

Members donated articles for the auction and HSBC sponsored the event and Nestle Malaysia donated the soft drinks. The evening was very successful and the informal atmosphere served as an opportunity for members to network with fellow BCSDM members.

6. Environmental Management Systems Seminar

In recognizing the need for businesses and industries to take a proactive and holistic approach towards protection of the environment, and promotion of sustainable development, BCSDM organized a seminar on “Environmental Auditing” on 29th October 1999. Two expert speakers shared their experiences.

  1. Ms Marina Yong, Environmental Consultant, Perunding Good Earth Sdn Bhd. Her presentation was on “Environmental Auditing-Principles and Requirements to ISO 14000 Standards”
  2. Mr. Beh Benh Hwa, Chief Research Officer, Quality & Technology Centre, Golden Hope Plantations Bhd. His presentation was on “Implementing EMS Environmental Audit – Golden Hope Plantations’ Experience”.
