1. Workshop – Safety Management – Getting it Right
BCSDM organized a workshop on “Safety Management – Getting It Right” on the 30th March 2005 at the Shangri-La Hotel Penang.

| 2. Prime Minister’s Hibiscus Award 2004-2005 |
The Prime Minister’s Hibiscus Award is the premier environmental award for businesses and industries in Malaysia and is co-organized by BCSDM, ENSEARCH, FMM & MICCI. This year 52 companies are participating for the Award.
The presentation of this Award was held on January 2006.

| 3. WBCSD Workshop on Sustainable Livelihood |
BCSDM in cooperation with the WBCSD organized a one-day workshop on “Sustainable Livelihood” on the 4th May 2005 at BP Asia Pacific Malaysia Sdn Bhd.
The Sustainable Livelihoods programme of the WBCSD has built up a significant amount of understanding and momentum around pro-poor business models, means of finance and ways of partnering to do real business that generates sustainable livelihoods for the poorest communities, as well as self-sustainability through profit.
Mr. Cameron Rennie, WBCSD moderated the workshop. The response was good with the maximum participation from the various industries. BP Asia Pacific sponsored the workshop.

| 4. BCSDM Member get Member Cocktail Reception. |
The Fund Raising Sub-Committee organized a Member Get Member Cocktail Reception on the 23rd June 2005 at the P.J. Hilton, for members to get together, share experiences, network with one another and introduce new potential members.
The event was very well attended with about 70 people. There were a few invitees who became members of BCSDM after this event. Mr. Sullivan O’Carroll, MD Nestle Malaysia welcomed all present the ED briefed the invitees on BCSDM. Nestle Malaysia sponsored the event and everyone went home with a goodies bag sponsored by Nestle Malaysia.

| 5. BCSDM Study Visit to Ma’daerah Marine Turtle Sanctuary Kertih |

With a view of encouraging companies to put into place environmental management systems the sub-committee on Environmental Management System (EMS) of the Business Council for Sustainable Development Malaysia (BCSDM) organised a study visit to the Ma’Daerah Marine Turtle Sanctuary Centre at Kertih from 16 July – 17 July 2005.
The response was good with about 25 persons.

| 6. Malam Mesra |
The Publicity / Fund Raising Sub-Committee organized the annual Malam Mesra at the Mega View Banquet Deck Menara Kuala Lumpur on the 23rd July 2005. The theme was “Starry Starry Nite”. The “Balle Balle” group provided the music and for the entertainment we had three belly dancers from Iran. Member companies sponsored all the lucky draw prizes and the best dressed male and female in accordance with the theme for the evening were awarded prizes. The event was very successful.

1. Minimise risk to employees and damage the environment
2. Improve business performance and
3. Assist organizations to establish a responsible and caring corporate image in the society.
The speakers were from SOCSO, DOSH CICM Traffic Police and some topics were Using Protective Equipment and Occupational Diseases

| 8. Seminar on Latest Developments on Sustainability in the Palm Oil Industy |
BCSDM organized a seminar on the Latest Developments on Sustainability in the Palm Oil Industry on the 15th August 2005. This was the first time BCSDM was focusing on one of the pillars of the Malaysian economy i.e. the Palm Oil Industry, to create, increase and spread the message of sustainability across the industry.
The speakers include: Mr. Andrew Ng RSPO, Dr. Chan Kok Wing MPOB, Mr. M.R. Chandran, Mr. Thomas Brandt MGCC and Dr. Gurmit Singh United Plantations. Dato’ Kok Wee Kiat Hon President BCSDM chaired the morning session and Dato Ghazali ED BCSDM chaired the afternoon session.
The seminar was a great success with about 40 participants.

| 9. BCSDM-PTM Roundtable on Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) |
The event was held on 18 August 2005 at the BCSDM Secretariat, and attended by members of the CDM Sub-Committee and members of the National CDM Energy Secretariat from PTM. The main objective of the roundtable was to enhance awareness among BCSDM members in CDM latest developments in CDM in both the Malaysian and international scene, and to have an opportunity to raise and discuss issues of particular interest. Active exchanges of views and experiences took place at the roundtable, where the idea of formulating and implementing an awareness and promotional programme on CDM, targeting essentially the BCSDM membership, with the cooperation of PTM and funding support from Danida, was agreed upon |

| 10. Brainstorming Session |
A Brain Storming session was held on the 28th September 2005 at the Ritz Carlton Hotel to review the Business Plan and seek ‘out of the box’ fresh ideas on the future directions and performance of BCSDM. |

| 11. Kick-off Seminar on CDM Acceleration Programme with BCSDM |
The seminar was hosted by the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment (NRE) Malaysia, Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) Japan, New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization (NEDO), and BCSDM. It was held on 3 October 2005 at Nikko Hotel, Kuala Lumpur. The seminar was opened by Mr. Masanori Kobayashi, Chief Representative of NEDO Jakarta Office. Dato’ Ghazali Dato’ Yusoff, the Executive Director gave a welcoming address on behalf of the BCSDM President. The NEDO-sponsored CDM Acceleration Programme with BCSDM was launched at the seminar where some details concerning the programme were provided by the Japanese consultants appointed by NEDO. Participants were also briefed on the latest developments in CDM at both the local and international scene. |

| 12. Three events were organised in collaboration with PTM with funding support provided by Danida under the “Capacity building in BCSDM for support of CDM implementation in Malaysia” project. |
12.1 Roundtable on Implementation of Clean Development Mechanism in Malaysia |
| The event was held on 14 November 2005 at Nikko Hotel, Kuala Lumpur, and opened by Dato’ Ghazali bin Dato’ Yusoff, Executive Director of BCSDM. Four Malaysian case studies were presented by the invited project developers, and preceded a Roundtable Discussion on Current Issues related to CDM Implementation and Operationalisation in Malaysia. A report on the deliberations and recommendations arising from the roundtable was circulated to all participants. A memorandum was prepared based on the outcomes of the roundtable and submitted to the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment (NRE), the Designated National Authority (DNA), highlighting issues of concern and recommendations for streamlining the national CDM approval process. |

| 12.2 Executive Seminar on Engaging the Private Sector in Clean Development Mechanism |
The event was held on 13 December 2005 at Westin Hotel, Kuala Lumpur and opened by Dato’ Kok Wee Kiat, Hon. President of BCSDM. Dr. Anuar Abdul Rahman, Chief Executive Officer of PTM delivered the Welcoming Address. The seminar was targeted at the decision-making management groups of companies as well as business and industry organisations, aiming at enhancing their awareness in CDM as embodying the principles of sustainable development and corporate social responsibility, and therefore constituting prudent corporate investments. Dato’ Ghazali Dato’ Yusoff, Executive Director of BCSDM delivered a keynote address on “CDM in the Context of Sustainable Development and Corporate Social Responsibility”. Invited speakers included one from Baker & McKenzie, Australia. |

| 12.3 Training Workshop on Understanding the Emission Reduction Purchase Agreement |
The event was held on 13 December 2005 at Westin Hotel, Kuala Lumpur. It aimed to provide capacity building among existing, prospective and potential CDM project developers and investors, as well as consultants and financiers, in understanding the types of ERPAs, their contents and obligations of contracting parties vis-à-vis the prevailing carbon credit markets. |

| 13. Motor Treasure Hunt |
The last event for the year was the Motor Treasure Hunt on the 19th November 2005.This event attracted 26 cars from members and non- members. Y. Bhg. Dato’ Hj. Mizanur Rahman Ghani, Honorary President of BCSDM flagged off the cars at Plaza Damansara at about 8.00am and the event finished at the Golf Club Carey Island with a very sumptuous lunch sponsored by Golden Hope Plantations, and entertainment was by the MIDA Band. |
